It’s amazing the money saved by not being tied to cable!!. I bought a DVR for the antenna channels an use it a lot but pay a monthly fee so now I am searching for a service that gets our area local channels an use their DVR so I can cancel my DVR service an save some money. I know they have antennas you can put in your attic or place in a window but I haven’t tried other’s to compare. It was not too costly to purchase an install. I also had a tall outside antenna installed against the house on a pole (higher than the roof) for local channels. I love all the channel choices an savings by streaming and network with friends an browse online to keep informed. It reminds me of the experience of long distance phone bills an those transitions/ changes that I was slow to make an spent some big bucks because I of it lol!! I cut the cable cord 10 yrs ago an never looked back. I LOVE your story of making the cable cord cutting move!! I think it truly hits home with those of us of a certain age □ I also like the breakdown of the expense/ savings. I hope that my story helps other to decide that Cord Cutting is a much better option. I feel good about the fact that I am no longer making Xfinity rich. I’m now an official Cord Cutter, and I feel good about it. There are some channels that I have never heard of, and their content is truly superb. There are some channels that I could never get unless I streamed them on the web. I will admit that the variety of channels via streaming are so vast, both myself and my hubbie couldn’t be happier. I admit, that I am a Looser for being afraid of change. I’m mad at myself that it took me so long to make a decision to cut the cord. Xfinity didn’t care much for us, as customers, when we had a problem but when I called about the Cancellation of their TV services, all of a sudden they remembered my name. In closing: Cutting the cord, and finding the channels/movies/news that you might be looking for takes a little patience, and of course, takes a little to get used to. I AM EMBARASSED that we didn’t cut the cord earlier. My teen daughter will be getting her license this month. No wonder why Xfinity is building new retail stores all over. a month – on the low – x 27 years/324 months = $72,900. I will round off the monthly numbers, but I calculate it to come to $225. ANNUALLY! To think, I’ve been with Xfinity/Comcast for 27 years. in total – which includes the Internet with them, as well as various streaming subscriptions). If I continued with Xfinity I would be giving them $225. I’m posting my comments here for one reason: For anyone who might have doubts with cutting the cord – I suggest that you take a cold shower and think about what you can do with the extra money that you will save each month. Needless to say, there is no looking back. We are still a wet behind the ears with this cutting the cord expedition we went with the Roku, and things have not been better. I cancelled ALL of the TV services with Xfinity, I even cancelled the landline phone because uh I can’t even tell you the last time I used that phone line – other than it was “attached” to all of my frequent shopper cards at the supermarkets (LOL). The only one loosing in the end is Xfinity – they are loosing about $225. Hubbie was worried that he would “loose” a channel or two. It’s just like anything else… when you get used to something you know, comfortable no one likes change. We were contemplating cutting the cord for the past few years, but for whatever reason, we never made a move. Needless to say, when I mentioned it to my hubbie, he almost had a baby! This past March (yes, right about that time that the Covid-19 was hitting), Xfinity decided to renew our contract on a month to month basis, which raised the overall monthly bill to almost $350. E.g.: we were paying $174.99 for ALL of the channels, premium movie channels included, (plus, then add in the internet & speed upgrade, the landline phone, and all of the additional taxes & fees). (+17 years at my prior location = 27 years total.) I’m truly uncertain why it was so important for my hubbie to have “all” of the channels and up until this year, Xfinity always renewed our 2 year contract at the EXPIRING rate. I’m embarrassed to say that I have been with Xfinity/Comcast for 10 long years at my current location because they were the only game in town. After following your tips, and reviewing the other user’s comments, the transition was very easy. I wanted to let you know that I finally cut the cord with Xfinity.
